The town of Zócalo is extremely popular for the enjoyable street feasts held in this town exclusively on the eve of 23 December, which is the time of the Radish Festival. Performances are also held at this place on 15 September, the day when the festival of Grito de Dolores is held and 24 December, the occasion of Christmas Eve. At night one can have an amazing time by taking part and being a spectator to musical events that also include performances by the local bands whom play instruments like drums and brass. The Llano Park - Paseo Juárez located in the region of El Llano is one of the ancient and the biggest parks in the whole of the Centro Histórico region. The specialty of this place is a monument, which has an icon of the leader of the Mexican independence movement called the Benito Juárez, established in the park in the year 1894.

New Market-Another delightful place that can be visited while coming to the region of Oaxaca is a souvenir market called the “la Verde Antequera” which was previously known by the name of Nueva Antequera. Have an amazing place time exploring the stone structures of this place built from indigenously found green stone. You can also easily arrive at this place with the help- of a second grade bus station situated near the “New Market”.

Beach at Huatulco, Oaxca

The untouched beauty of the place though pleasingly primitive is still so welcoming and warm. With stories of resorts not exceeding the count of six, a lot of care has been taken to preserve the beauty of the place intact. As I discovered the emerald rainforests and spectacular waterfalls, I just couldn’t stop myself from admitting that Huatulco is surely an environmental jewel.

Indulging in some whale watching along with exploring the culture of Zapotec people made the experience even more enriching. With ideal water location to catch tuna and marlin, I just could not resist the temptation of sport fishing, which was yet another splendid experience that added onto my memory of the trip to Hautulco.

Though I couldn’t participate, but from some passersby I got to know about The Sailfish Fishing Tournament that is held here every year amidst the crystalline and calm waters of the Pacific coast of Oaxaca.

Apart from the impeccable natural beauty, the archaeological zone of Punta Celeste situated inside the wonderful Botazoo Ecological Park is also worth of equal admiration. Trekking experience through the jungles of the place, it added onto the adventurous aspect of my trip.

Bahias de Huatulco National park spans 30,000 acers hosting 470 species of reptiles and over 9000 spieces of plants.

Barra del Potero Iguana Sanctuary is the home of over 1800 iguanas. The locally run sanctuary is large fenced area where the iguanas can roam free. The Iguana sanctuary is located 20 km north of hw200.

Mazunte turtle Sanctuary is a large outdoor aquarium featuring every species of turtle known to the Mexican coast.

Reflecting the flavorful cuisine and traditional hospitality of the culture of Oaxaca, its surprising ingredients like tasajo, quesello, tlayudas and mole greatly satiated my taste buds. Seafood being my favorite, I just hogged upon almost each and every delicious gourmet I could, during my trip to Huatulco.

This includes the tempting squid, shrimp, lobster and many kinds of fish that are served in a striking manner such as broiled, seasoned, grilled or fried. International, Mexican and Oaxacan specialties were the options that were offered to me at the restaurants located at the seaside.

Streets and shopping in Huatulco

Not to forget, shopping experience in Huatulco was indeed great, no matter if it is markets, small stores or beach side vendors. There is a lot that was on offer in Huatulco, especially when it comes to regional specialties that includes dresses and embroidered blouses, barro negro pottery, that are carved from the dark clay and only found in Oaxaca region.

There were a few stores located in the Plaza las Conchas in Tangolunda, from where I purchased souvenirs, clothing and jewelry along with some essentials. Though there were gift shops in hotels, but I purchased some gift items from the counterparts of these gift shops located in the La Crucecita as the latter was comparatively cheaper.

My hotel at the beachside was ideally located, however there were also hotels in the city, but staying close to the beach obviously provided me with an opportunity to capture some panoramic views of the place. Condos was another good option for accommodation that I would have preferred if I had visited there with my family, but being alone hotel seem to be a more comfortable alternative to me.

Golf being my passion, I took recourse to the golf course located in Hatulco, which I must say was quite challenging. The course was in apt shape and well watered. There was not even the smallest brown patch that was visible. The course was one of its kind and not the usual resort style. Laid out on quite narrow but deep land area, it is very rarely discovered that holes are found consecutively parallel to one another.

Hautulco being a hot place, I decided to play during the early morning hours and I wouldn’t be wrong at all if I say that it was indeed a good decision on my part.

Huatulco Beach

The unspoilt beauty of the place is still very much alive in my memories till today and I long to get back there. Though I went there alone, but I am sure it is a great gateway for romantic pleasures and will surely be an experience of a lifetime for all its visitors. Sports, nightlife, shopping, you just name it and you will find it in Huatulco.

Although the days that I spent in Huatulco were few, but for each day spent there I can relate a different and new experience. Indeed I have explored Huatulco in many ways, but I am sure there is a lot more that still lies there which are unseen, revisiting this magical place of Huatulco will defiantly become a priority.
